World Kindness Day: How a Free Doughnut (and a Labrador Puppy) Can Brighten Your Day

November 13, 2024by Katy Bazurto0

T

oday, I woke up to the sweet, sugary news that Krispy Kreme was giving away free doughnuts for World Kindness Day! Who doesn’t love a warm, gooey doughnut, right? And it got me thinking here at Bazurto Kennels, we know a thing or two about spreading joy – although in our case, the joy is more likely to jump on you and cover you with kisses than come in a box with sprinkles.

World Kindness Day isn’t just about grand gestures or giving away doughnuts (as delightful as they are); it’s about the little things that can make someone’s day a little brighter. And if there’s one thing, we can learn from Labrador Retrievers, it’s that kindness is as simple as wagging your tail and being happy to see someone—every single time. Labradors practically invented the art of unconditional love, and I’ve got a few stories to share from the kennels to prove it!

Labrador Love Lessons: Spreading Kindness One Wag at a Time

I have to admit, Krispy Kreme might be onto something with their sugary giveaway. Around here, every Lab pup we raise at Bazurto Kennels has their own way of teaching us about the little joys in life. Every morning when I open the kennel doors, I’m greeted with a stampede of happy tails and slobbery smiles from our Champion Labrador Retriever and their Labrador Retriever Puppies. If that’s not an instant mood-lifter, I don’t know what is.

One of our Labs, “Taylor“, has a particularly kind-hearted streak. Anytime a new pup feels a bit overwhelmed or shy, Taylor is right there, snuggling up and encouraging the little one with a gentle nudge. It’s like she knows exactly how to be the friend that pup needs. Maybe Labs could be therapists too – all they’re missing is the couch!

Why Labradors Are Nature’s Kindness Experts

Labradors have a sixth sense for kindness. Think about it: Labs were bred to be gentle and attentive, working alongside people as hunting companions and family pets alike. These are dogs that naturally want to help, whether it’s by retrieving a lost ball, sitting quietly next to you when you’re sad, or being goofy enough to make you laugh.

And let’s be real, a Labrador’s version of “helping” can be a bit more, well, exuberant at times. They aren’t exactly known for being reserved, but maybe that’s what makes them so charming. Labs teach us not to hold back our happiness, and they have an uncanny way of sensing when someone needs a little extra love.

Krispy Kreme Kindness and Labrador Hugs: Why Small Gestures Matter

Just like that free doughnut from Krispy Kreme can turn someone’s day around, a Lab’s little gestures of affection have that same magic. If you’ve ever been around Labradors, you know their love is infectious. You could be having the worst day imaginable, but the moment a Lab sidles up and leans into you, everything seems a bit more bearable. And let me tell you, that’s exactly the California vibe at Bazurto Kennels – from out caring staff to our Labrador Retriever Puppies for Sale.

When families come to pick out a pup, it’s always a joy to watch as one of our dogs naturally connects with them. Often, the Lab will do something so small—like put a paw on their knee or lean against them—that you just see it in the family’s eyes: they’ve found their dog. It’s that little spark of kindness, something so simple and genuine, that creates an instant bond.

Practicing Kindness, Labrador-Style, Every Day

One of the most beautiful parts of my job is seeing how our Labs affect people’s lives, from that first moment of connection to years of companionship. Labradors have this instinct for kindness that isn’t forced or overthought—it’s just who they are. And it’s a quality we can all strive to bring into our own lives.

So, here’s a challenge in honor of World Kindness Day, straight from Bazurto Kennels: find your inner Labrador. Reach out to someone, even if it’s just to let them know you’re there. Offer a small, unexpected kindness to someone who needs it, or maybe even a total stranger. And if you happen to be near a Krispy Kreme, why not pay it forward with a doughnut for the next person in line?

Final Thought: Be More Labrador, Be More Kind

As the last of the doughnuts get eaten today, and the excitement of World Kindness Day winds down, let’s take a cue from our four-legged friends and carry this spirit of kindness forward. Whether it’s a warm doughnut, a listening ear, or a tail-wagging friend, it’s the little things that make a big difference.

After all, the world could always use a little more Labrador love. Happy World Kindness Day from all of us at Bazurto Kennels—and a special wag from Taylor!
