Led by founder Katy Bazurto, the team brings years of experience and a deep understanding of the breed to the mission of providing joy and companionship to families.
The breeding program at Bazurto Kennels is built on ethical practices and a genuine love for dogs, placing the health and well-being of each animal above any financial considerations. This commitment ensures that every puppy has the best possible chance for a long, happy life. Each breeding dog undergoes thorough health screenings and genetic testing to produce healthy puppies.
Our commitment to ethical breeding extends beyond our own facilities, as we actively engage in community service efforts at the local animal shelter, striving to make a positive impact on the lives of all dogs, not just our own.
Each of our Yellow Labrador and Black Labs breeding pairs are carefully selected based on their physical attributes, temperament, and behavior to produce friendly, loyal, and intelligent companions. Whether seeking a family pet, a skilled working dog, or a companion for outdoor adventures, Bazurto Kennels has the perfect match.
Screen all breeding stock for heritable diseases and use only those dogs in their breeding program that have received the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) registration number for clearance given at or after 24 months of age for Hip and Elbow Dysplsaia; CHIC clearance within one year of breeding for Ocular Disorders; Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) DNA Evaluation; D Locus Dilute Gene DNA evaluation.
Annual ACVO eye exams are crucial for detecting late-onset hereditary eye diseases. While the Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) test is a CHIC requirement, it’s important to note that a bitch or dog doesn’t necessarily have to be clear to be included in the breeding program. Moreover, it’s highly advisable that LRC member breeders screen their breeding stock for Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM), Progressive Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRCD), and cardiac conditions.
We uphold a strict zero-tolerance policy against inbreeding to mitigate the risk of offspring suffering from inherited disorders. This entails refraining from breeding practices such as parent to offspring or sibling to sibling mating, which are known to increase the likelihood of genetic abnormalities in progeny. By adhering to these principles, we prioritize the health and well-being of our breeding stock and their offspring, ensuring the continuation of healthy bloodlines for future generations.
When rehoming a dog with heritable issues, transparency is key. Disclose all health information and risks. Ensure spaying/neutering or contractual agreement with the new owner. Follow-up to confirm surgery completion is essential. Responsible breeders provide full dog histories, prioritizing transparency and welfare, contributing to breed improvement.
Adoption/Purchase contracts are prepared in plain language that spells out the breeder’s responsibilities, actions taken such as adopter’s responsibilities, health guarantees, outlining accurate and reliable health, vaccination, and pedigree information and return policy.
